For hundreds of veterans transitioning from military service to college life, Onondaga Community College has become more than a campus - it's a community. That commitment was just recognized nationally as Military Times named OCC and its Office of Veterans and Military Services "Best for Vets."

Military Times compiled its rankings by conducting surveys with colleges across the country. Institutions were evaluated based on their academic quality, student support services, affordability, and outcomes for veterans, including graduation and retention rates.

Steve White runs OCC's Office of Veterans and Military Services, which assists Student Veterans and family members transitioning from service to civilian life and higher education. "We are very excited that the college has again been designated as a 'Best for Vets' college by Military Times," White said. "This designation reflects the longstanding efforts of OCC's faculty and staff to support the success of our student veterans.

Student Veterans say they appreciate the support - and how much the college has assisted them during their time on campus:

  • "The services provided here are absolutely integral to a Veteran seeking education. And it's nice to have a relaxed place where everyone can share their experiences." - Jonathan Yard, United States Navy Veteran
  • "You can come to Steve with a problem or an issue, and he will work very hard to try and solve it. Having a space like this on campus where you can come in and be with other Veterans who are trying to better themselves - it's invaluable to have something like this." - Jake Blackwelder, United States Marine Corps Veteran
  • "The help that Steve gives - it would be an understatement to say how consequential it is. He makes the insurmountable mountain a molehill. Any time you have a question, he's getting back to you in a half hour to an hour with an answer." -Ryan Scholes, United States Navy Veteran

The Office of Veterans and Military Services is located on the second floor of Coulter Hall.
