Amber Brink's first semester at Onondaga Community College was a struggle. The assistance she received from someone willing to listen changed the path she was on and inspired her. "I talked to my RA a lot, and they really supported me. I decided I wanted to do that for other people. My RA was stressed out by the job, and I can relate to that. But they were doing good things and helping everyone. I wanted to do that."

Brink became an RA, switched majors, and excelled in the Mathematics & Science degree program with a specialization in Biology. She earned membership in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, was a member of the Lillian Slutzker Honors College, and participated in the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program and TRIO. She was chosen to be a member of the Student Advisory Board for the School of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the Housing Board of Directors, and a Meg O'Connell Scholar. During spring break, Brink and fellow scholars embarked on a service-learning trip to Puerto Rico. "It was hard work, but it was great. It was really fulfilling to learn about a different culture, appreciate it, and do good."

Last summer, Brink was chosen for internships at two laboratories. The experiences blended together two subjects she is passionate about: biology and space. It led to the possibility of studying Astrobiology after she graduates from OCC in December. "I love to learn and I love the endless expanse. There's always more to learn. The more I learn, the more I want to learn."
