Onondaga Community College's chapter of the American Association of Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC), in partnership with the Women's Basketball team, invites you to tee off for a great cause at the Scholarship Scramble!
Join us Sunday, June 28 at Wanoa Golf Course at 6920 Minoa Bridgeport Road in East Syracuse for a day of fun, friendly competition, and meaningful impact. The tournament will follow a captain & crew format, where each player hits a shot and the team plays from the best one. It's perfect for golfers of all skill levels!
After a wildly successful debut last summer, the Scholarship Scramble returns with even more momentum. Thanks to the incredible support from participants and sponsors, two OCC students received scholarships, helping them take the next step toward their goals.
Scholarship recipient Juliana Challis-Borszewski is working on her Nursing degree. "The scholarship is a wonderful and inspiring opportunity for women to further their education and career goals. Being a nursing student, working enough to pay for school and other necessities is slightly difficult. Receiving this scholarship truly alleviated some of my financial stressors."
Another scholarship recipient, Irielle Mwija, is studying Electromechanical Technology. "I am honored to be selected. I am not just pursuing a degree; I am pursuing a vision of empowerment, progress, and change. My transition is not only personal but also symbolic of a larger movement that encourages women, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to step into fields where they have historically been excluded. I am determined to challenge stereotypes, push boundaries, and create a legacy of resilience and excellence in STEM."
This year's proceeds will once again support student scholarships while also benefiting OCC's Women's Basketball program, helping empower student-athletes both on and off the court. "Beyond the financial support, it shows our players that the community is truly invested in their success both on the court and in the classroom," said Women's Basketball Head Coach Kelly Seibt. "This partnership with AAWCC helps provide the resources our student-athletes need to excel academically and ensures our program remains competitive."
