I. Policy Statement 

The College prohibits, and will not tolerate, discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, creed, age, disability, sex, gender expression, sexual orientation, familial status, pregnancy, predisposing genetic characteristics or carrier status*, military status (including U.S. Veteran status), domestic violence victim status, prior criminal conviction that is unrelated to the employee's job, or any other characteristic protected by law. The College will comply with all applicable equal employment opportunity and non-discrimination laws.

This policy applies to all terms and conditions of employment including, but not limited to, recruiting, hiring, promotion, termination, layoff, transfer, leave of absence, compensation, benefits, and training.

Onondaga Community College is an Equal Opportunity Employer.  Any form of unlawful discrimination, including harassment is strictly prohibited. The College will comply with all applicable equal employment opportunity and non-discrimination laws. 

III. Applicability of the Policy 

This policy applies to all College employees.  Additionally, the College prohibits students, vendors, suppliers, visitors, and any other individual that an employee comes in contact with during the course of their employment from discriminating against employees of the College based on any protected class or status.

VI. Definitions 

Term Definition
*GINA Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008. This act protects Americans against discrimination based on their genetic information when it comes to health insurance and employment.

VII. Procedures 

An employee who feels that he or she has been the victim of discrimination or harassment, or if an employee witnesses or learns of any discrimination or harassment, the employee must take immediate action and report the discrimination or harassment as outlined in the Non-Discrimination/Non-Harassment Policy (Policy I5).

The College will not retaliate, intimidate, threaten, discriminate, or otherwise take any adverse employment action against an employee who files a complaint, testifies, or assists in any complaint made under this policy or with a court or government agency.
