"Getting Help Is A Strength"

Sunday is World Mental Health Day. It's a day for mental health education, awareness, and advocacy against the social stigma that goes along with admitting you have a problem and asking for help. "Getting help isn't a weakness. It's a strength. Knowing you are struggling and knowing you need help is a strength," said Sarah Magowan, OCC's Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Coordinator.

Student Spotlight: Ellion Magsino

Ellion Magsino dreamed he would one day be able to immigrate from the Philippines to the United States and pursue a better life. That's exactly what he's doing at Onondaga Community College. "I love it here. There are so many opportunities compared to back home where there weren't a lot of opportunities for success."

Magsino arrived in the United States in 2019, following his mother who had immigrated here more than a decade earlier. He was raised by his aunt and uncle while he waited for everything to be worked out with the immigration process.

It featured a keynote address from SUNY Binghamton's Dr. Lisa Savage and Dr. Patricia DiLorenzo, student research talks, and poster presentations which gave attendees the opportunity to visit with students individually and learn about their research.
