Two P-TECH Students Chosen for Micron Paid Internships

"It's like Willy Wonka's Golden Ticket!"

That was Will Appleton's reaction when he learned he had been selected for a paid internship at Micron this summer. Appleton is a senior at Central Square High School and a Electrical Technology major at Onondaga Community College through the Pathways in Technology Early College High School program, which is known as P-TECH. The program provides high school students the opportunity to work toward their high school diploma and associate degree simultaneously, and ultimately a pathway to an in-demand job.

"I Feel Like I Belong!"

March 23, 2016 was a typical end-of-winter, start-of-spring day in Central New York. The temperature hovered around 40 degrees. At times it was overcast with a rare appearance by the sun, and at times it rained lightly. What might have seemed extremely gloomy to locals was anything but that to Desire Ndagijimana, his 5 siblings, and their parents. When their plane touched down at the Syracuse airport around 6 p.m. that night, they were pretty sure they were in paradise. "For me it was like 'Oh my God I'm coming to the land of opportunity.

  • Lifeguard at the YMCA where she works 35 hours a week.
  • Tutor through her local library in the subjects of physics, calculus, and chemistry.
  • Serves as a Certified EMT.

And then there's everything she does at OCC which includes:

Nationally Recognized for Developing a Better Way

Three Onondaga Community College colleagues who began working on a project to accelerate developmental education a decade ago are about to have that project recognized with a national award. The OCC English Department will receive the 2024 Diana Hacker Two-Year College English Association Award for Outstanding Programs in English for Two-year Colleges because of the work done by Dean Michael O'Connor, Dr. Matt DelConte, and Dr. Malkiel Choseed.
