Students in Onondaga Community College's Criminal Justice Club kicked off the academic year by welcoming two distinguished guests: Julie Corn, Commissioner of the Department of Communications/911 for Onondaga County, and 911 Center Deputy Commissioner Esteban Gonzalez. The two leaders shared their career journeys, offered professional insights, and answered student questions.
"Having professionals from the 911 Call Center speak to our Criminal Justice Club was an incredible opportunity for our students," said Professor Jessica Wieczorek, who is the Coordinator of OCC's Criminal Justice & Public Safety academic programs. "Events like these give students a chance to network with professionals in the field, and help them connect what they are learning in the classroom with real-world experiences."
Looking ahead, the Criminal Justice Club will host the Onondaga County Sheriff's Department K-9 Unit in October, continuing its mission to bring relevant, real-world exposure to aspiring criminal justice professionals.
"These presentations are valuable for students' academic and personal development. We hope they inspire new goals and career paths for our students to explore," said Professor Wieczorek.
