Throughout the fall semester, students in Onondaga Community College’s Criminal Justice Club engaged with a variety of accomplished guest professionals who offered firsthand insight into their careers. Their final session before the break featured Taylor Bourdon, a Forensic Death Investigator from the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office, who brought a compelling look into the world of medicolegal death investigation. During her conversation with students, she highlighted the importance of the work done in the Medical Examiners office, the goals of death investigations, and the daily operations of a forensic investigator.

"This was an exceptional learning experience for our students," said Jessica Wieczorek, Professor and Coordinator of OCC's Criminal Justice & Public Safety courses. "Taylor's insights gave students a unique look into the realities of medicolegal death investigation, including working with police, body inspections, and documentation for forensic pathologists. This truly helps students connect classroom concepts to real forensic investigative work. Opportunities like this not only deepen academic understanding but also inspire students to explore new career paths with forensic and investigative sciences."

In addition to Bourdon’s visit, the Criminal Justice Club welcomed experts from the 911 Call Center and the Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit, giving students a broad look at careers across public safety. Up next, club members will volunteer on December 17 at the Salvation Army’s Christmas Bureau Distribution Day, helping hand out toys and food to families in need.
