Some of the region's best small businesses were recognized for their accomplishments during a National Small Business Week celebration on the Onondaga Community College Campus. The North Central Small Business Development Center (SBDC), which is headquartered at OCC, teamed up with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to recognize local success stories. The event was held May 5 in the Gordon Student Center's Great Room. Below is a list of the small businesses honored:
- SBA Small Business Person of the Year - Shawni Davis, owner of Luminary Electrical in Syracuse.
- SBA Woman-Owned Business of the Year - Dr. Kate Robinson, owner of Lyndon Pediatrics in Fayetteville.
- SBA Rural-Owned Small Business of the Year - Matthew Pierson, owner of Simple Roast Coffee Company, Auburn.
- SBA Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year - Mark and Alex Williams, part owners of Savurn Memorials in Norwich.
- North Central SBDC Lender Partner of the Year - NBT Bank.
- North Central SBDC Onondaga County Small Business of the Year - Syracuse Boat Tours owned by Annette Peters.
Also, during National Small Business Week, North Central SBDC Regional Bob Griffin and his team will deliver "Small Business of the Year" awards to one business in each of the 8 counties his office serves. The honorees are:
- Cayuga County - At Long Last in Auburn.
- Cortland County - 1812 Shoppe in Marathon.
- Jefferson County - Peak Performance Training in Chaumont.
- Lewis County - The Cottage Inn in Copenhagen.
- Madison County - Farmstead 1868 in Cazenovia.
- Onondaga County - Syracuse Boat Tours.
- Oswego County - Oswego Sub Show in Oswego.
- Seneca County - Elements on Van Cleef in Seneca Falls.
