Navigators of Student Success - Chris Gilkes

Throughout the summer, we are introducing you to several of our Student Success Navigators. For Onondaga Community College students, they are the dedicated point of contact for support. Student Success Navigators assist with class registration, help students stay on track academically, and connect students with campus resources to support their success.

Chris Gilkes

• Chris is a Student Success Navigator for the TRIO Student Support Services program at OCC.
• Chris supports students across a variety of academic programs, helping them navigate college life, stay on track academically, and connect with campus resources that support their goals and success. Students he works with are either first-generation college students, have a documented disability, or are income-eligible.
• What Chris enjoys about being a Student Success Navigator: "I love building relationships with students, being an outlet for students to come to for guidance, and provide encouragement, and support throughout their college journey. Students will experience adversity and make sacrifices in pursuit of their goals. It is a privilege to be able to support students while watching them achieve the goals they set for themselves. "

• Best way for students to contact Chris:  Via email, text, or phone. Also, students can make appointments through Lazer Success for 1-on-1 meetings. He encourages students to stay connected and reach out whenever they need support, resources, or assistance navigating college life.
