Decision time had arrived for Celine Rahman. It was 2008 and she was about to receive her diploma from Jamesville-Dewitt High School. What would come next? She didn’t have a plan. That’s when her mother told her Onondaga Community College would be a great place to start.

Second Chance Career: Greg Minix, '15

Greg Minix turned a negative into a positive and wound up with a second career. The Marathon, New York native was working at New Process Gear (NPG) when the plant closed in August 2012. Minix’s severance package gave him the opportunity to go back to school at NPG’s expense and he took advantage, choosing to attend OCC. “It was kind of my second chance at life.

Hassina Adams

The life lessons Hassina Adams’ mother taught her while growing up in South Africa are with her every day. Her mother struggled to raise four children on her own. She didn’t have the financial means but more than made up for it with the wisdom she shared. “My mom raised me to have a target, have a goal, implement a plan which would allow me to reach that goal and execute it. That’s how I’ve lived my life. I don’t do Plan B’s.

2016 Alumni Faces Honorees

Four distinguished graduates have been named 2016 “Alumni Faces” honorees for their professional achievements and contributions to the College and the community. Jeff Cleland, Michael Meath, Kathy Rowe and Dr. Thomas Zengeya will be honored for their accomplishments during an induction ceremony Wednesday, October 26 at 5:30 p.m.

Fantastic Fall Lineup

OCC’s Arts Across Campus program has another outstanding lineup for the fall 2016 semester. One of the headliner events is the September 28 lecture by New York Times Bestselling Author Cheryl Strayed. Her memoir, “Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail” tells the story of her transformational journey and is the focus of a year-long common read on campus. A complete listing of all Arts Across Campus events can be found here.

New York Times Bestselling Author Cheryl Strayed spoke at the SRC Arena & Events Center Wednesday, September 28. She discussed her memoir, “Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail” which tells the story of her transformational journey. Following her lecture Strayed signed copies of “Wild.”

You’re Hired! – Anthony Olmstead ‘15

Onondaga Community College is filled with opportunities for students who seek them out. Anthony Olmstead is proof of that. He started at a four-year school, found it wasn’t the right fit and left after one semester. He spent a year working and knew he needed to pursue higher education. His passion for computers attracted him to OCC. “I knew a two-year degree would help me start my career faster without accumulating more debt.”

Jennifer Polak, ’95 has a passion for preparing food for others. She discovered it shortly after graduating from Syracuse's Fowler High School when she began working in local restaurants.
