Dinyar came to OCC with the dream of being a percussionist. OCC’s Music faculty discovered he had enormous potential as a vocalist and worked with him to enhance those skills. “Everyone was extremely supportive. There were many positive influences and that really went a long way in my development and growth. I received the best education of my life at OCC.” Vania is now an opera tenor and one of the most sought after talents throughout the United States and Europe.

Cpl. Jeff Cleland, '13, USMC, Retired

The terror attacks of September 11, 2001 set Jeff on a path of service to his country. He joined the United States Marine Corps and served in Iraq before becoming wounded and medically retiring. Jeff came to OCC, earned his degree and today works at the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas where he helps veterans find resources within their communities. OCC named Jeff a distinguished Alumni Faces honoree in 2016.

Cody Jamieson, '08

During Cody’s two seasons on the Men’s Lacrosse team the Lazers went undefeated and won back-to-back national championships. He transferred to Syracuse University and scored the game winning goal for the Orange in the 2009 national championship game. Cody now plays lacrosse professionally and designs lacrosse equipment for Under Armour. He gives credit to OCC for much of what he accomplished. “I loved my time there.

Dr. Daryll Dykes, '83

Daryll is one of the nation’s premier spine surgeons. His love of medicine started early. As a young boy he enjoyed visiting his mother while she worked as a nurse. After graduating from high school he joined the United States Marine Corps as a way of paying for college. After completing his military obligation, he came to OCC. “The classes and professors at OCC really ignited my passion for learning.

Dr. Deirdre Hunter, '02

Dr. Deirdre Hunter fell in love with science and engineering as a young woman while working on cars with her father in his auto repair business. She earned degrees from OCC, Syracuse University and Virginia Tech. Today she is a Lecturer of Engineering Design at Rice University in Houston. “If I would have attended a four-year university right out of high school I do not think I would have excelled academically to the extent that I have.

Dr. Richard Delmonico, '77

Richard was an above average high school student who didn’t know what he wanted to do. He came to OCC and began figuring things out. “OCC started me on the path to my career. It helped me gain confidence in my academic abilities. I’m not sure I would have had the opportunities I had in life if not for OCC.” Today he is a clinical neuro psychologist in northern California who specializes in working with people with neurological disorders such as traumatic brain injuries.

Kim Dwyer, '89

Kim came to OCC, enrolled in the Architectural Technology program and joined a community of students and faculty intent on helping each other succeed. “We were a small knit group who helped each other constantly. The professors challenged us with a lot of team oriented work so it had the feel of a professional studio environment.” Kim worked for King + King Architects for more than 20 years, then went out on her own.

Onondaga Community College annually recognizes distinguished graduates by naming them "Alumni Faces" for their accomplishments and contributions to the community. The 2017 class will be honored during a ceremony November 1 at 5:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall which is located in the Academic II building. One of the graduates we will honor that night is John "JD" DelVecchio.
