VA Education Benefits

Steps to Exploring Benefits:

  1. Learn more about VA education benefits and compare your benefits
  2. Apply for VA education benefits
    • After you have applied it takes approximately 30 days for the VA to process your education claim.  If you are approved for VA education benefits, the VA will then mail you a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or award letter.  Bring this letter to the VA certifying official at your school.
  3. Request your Military Transcripts
    • For Army, Navy, Marine and Coast Guard, request your Joint Service Transcripts
    • For Air Force, request your transcripts from The Air University
  4. Submit request for VA benefit certification at the beginning of each term
  5. Verify Your School Enrollment
    • Anyone using GI Bill benefits (CH 33, CH 1606, CH 30 or CH 35) is required to verify their enrollment to VA at the end of each month before MHA is released. (CH 31 recipients are NOT required to verify at this time).
    • Students will receive a text from the VA asking them to Opt-In to text verification.  You will have 14 days to respond to the text and after that you will be automatically enrolled in email verification. You can also verify by phone at 1-888-442-4551 or Ask VA
    • If you fail to verify for two consecutive months, your MHA and/or kicker will be placed on hold.  You will need to call the Education Call Center at 1-888-442-4551 to verify your enrollment and have your payments released.
