Celebrating Student Success In Electromechanical Technology

Onondaga Community College celebrated the accomplishments of its students enrolled in the Electromechanical Technology (ELM) program during an event held May 15 in the Gordon Student Center Great Room.

The ELM program was created in response to Micon Technology's decision to build a chip fabrication plant in Onondaga County. OCC welcomed its first group of ELM students in the fall 2023 semester. This Saturday, the first group of students who completed the program will receive their degrees.

During the event, faculty in OCC's School of Technology, Engineering & Computing:

• Celebrated the inaugural ELM degree (2-year) graduates. Several were selected for paid internships at Micron in the summer of 2024. Some will return to work there following commencement.
• Celebrated the 2025 ELM certificate (1-year) graduates.
• Celebrated our second group of students selected for paid internships at Micron this summer.
• Celebrated out students selected for paid internships as part of NY-CREATE. We have 5 students who will be working and learning at the Albany Nanotech complex this summer.
• Showcased the coursework and hands-on activities students worked on throughout the past 2 years.
• Highlighted the diverse group of instructors needed to deliver the program including 27 unique instructors, 17 of whom are adjuncts from industry.
• Connected with industry partners who may be interested in learning more about the ELM program.
