December 18 is National Twin Day, an opportunity to celebrate the unique bond shared by siblings born minutes apart. Whether identical or fraternal, twins have memories of inside jokes, shared milestones, and a sense of togetherness that lasts a lifetime.
Onondaga Community College has at least nine employees who are twins. Several of them were kind enough to come together, show pictures of their twin, and share stories of their twin experiences.
Annie Tuttle and her twin sister Ali are daughters of a twin!. When Annie and Ali were 18, they decided to get matching twin tattoos. "She went first and acted like it was the most excruciating pain imaginable, so I panicked and backed out at the last second," said Annie. "The twin tattoos turned out to be a tattoo just for my sister. She still hasn't forgiven me."
Dana Acee has a twin brother named Marc. She remembers when they went to the eye doctor separately to pick out glasses. When her brother got home with his new glasses and saw his sister's new glasses, they realized they had picked out the exact same pair!
Bill Miles has a twin sister, Katie. Bill remembers a summer when they worked together at Great Basin National Park in Nevada. "If you visited that summer, there's a decent chance we saved you from a rogue marmot with anger issues!"
Dana Marzynski remembers how often she and her twin sister Dale would be walking together while teenagers and randomly break out in song. They weren't listening to music, but would often start singing the same song at the exact same point at the same time!
Allison Solan and her twin sister Emily used to work a block away from each other. "Sometimes at work, customers would come from the library where she worked to where I worked and become immediately confused because they thought we were the same person," said Allison.
One of Najier Johnson's favorite memories with her twin sister Najah is buying a home together in 2020. Both are first-generation college students, and the first in their family to own a home!
Leslie Reid and her twin sister Sarah both work in higher education, which led to a case of mistaken identity. When Leslie was attending a conference in New York State, a woman unexpectedly ran up to her and gave her a bear hug. It turns out the woman had worked with Sarah at the Rochester Institute of Technology and thought she was hugging Sarah! When the confusion was finally untangled, they FaceTimed Sarah from the conference and shared a good laugh.
