Onondaga Community College graduate Kayla McKeon '22 (left) received the Outstanding Alumni Award from Ava Parker (right), Chair of the American Association of Community College's during its annual gathering in April.
April was national Community College Month, providing an opportunity to celebrate the life-changing opportunities available to students of all ages at open access institutions from coast-to-coast.
At Onondaga Community College, a wide-range of activities and achievements during April highlighted the institution's important place in the community.
- Architecture & Interior Design students performed community service at Tiny Home for Good and Habitat for Humanity, and participated in tree plantings at a park in Eastwood.
- Students in STEM-related programs met on campus with the Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and Assistant to the President for Science and Technology.
- Alumna Kayla McKeon '22 received the Outstanding Alumni Award at the American Association of Community College's annual convention.
- OCC's chapter of international honor society Phi Theta Kappa was named tops in New York State and one of the top 50 in the entire world.
- OCC students Danielle Lambert, Alex Espitia-Casallas, and Gavan Liston received statewide awards in Albany.
- The College hosted the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (C-STEP) regional conference.
- The OCC Foundation administered a "Week of Giving" in support of our students.
- OCC hosted a Health Job Fair and a STEM Career Showcase for our students.
- An OCC Alumnus returned to campus to be sworn-in as a Syracuse Police Officer.
OCC's role as "The Community's College" is being recognized across the region. Enrollment increased significantly from year-to-year, and during national Community College Month OCC hosted its largest Open House ever.
