The OCC Effect: Mike Carno, '13

Mike Carno has always enjoyed being a “hands on” kind of worker. After graduating from Bishop Ludden in 2011 he spent the summer working in a machine shop. He planned to attend OCC in the fall but wasn’t sure what he would major in. “A week before the semester started I got a tour of the machine shop (classroom in the Whitney Applied Technology Center) and became a Mechanical Technology major. I wound up loving it.”
While excelling in Mechanical Technology, Carno learned about the College’s Nuclear Technology program.

Professor's Song Becomes Official Hymn

Don Miller’s lasting tribute to the military is now New York State's official hymn honoring fallen members of the military. During the final week of 2018, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a bill which made "Here Rests in Honored Glory" the Empire State's hymn of remembrance in honor of all American veterans.
Miller's work is the result of service he narrowly missed out on. He was growing up in southwestern Ohio when the Vietnam War started. He expected to be drafted and was prepared to serve his country but  was never selected.

The OCC Effect: Ousmane Conde

Ousmane Conde grew up in a family of wood crafters in one of the poorest countries in the world, Guinea in West Africa. At a young age his mother recognized his unique math and science skills. She sent him to France where he would live with a foster family and attend an engineering school. He graduated from high school in 2006, went to college and earned a degree in technology. He created a startup, CRM software for small businesses which took him to Philadelphia for a brief period.
