When Mirianny Tifa Paulino was growing up in the Dominican Republic, the goal was to live in America one day. "My mother always saw the United States in our future. When I was a little she put me in an English institute so I would learn English."

Paulino started taking classes at Onondaga Community College in the spring 2024 semester and quickly found an academic program that aligned with her passion. "When I was in the Dominican Republic being a singer was my job. I worked in piano bars. When I saw there was a Music major here I thought 'this is my way.'"

Hunter Yessick has struggled with homelessness and drug addiction. In two months he'll walk across the stage in the SRC Arena and receive his college degree. "My grades have gotten better every semester. I'm 32 but I'm far from having everything figured out. Finally it feels like I'm driving. I'm not just in the back seat."

Yessick is a native of Birmingham, Alabama who had never been north of Tennessee when a relationship brought him to Central New York. "This girl has been with me every step of the way. She's the best partner I could ever have. She's a soldier. I'm blessed."

Meghan Bird's desire for a career she is passionate about with great employment opportunities has brought her from Canada to Central New York.

Matt Forger is an Onondaga Community College Alumnus who has mastered the technical side of recording music. His credits include the top selling album of all-time, Michael Jackson's Thriller. So how did he go from Central New York to becoming a world-class music producer, mixer, engineer, sound designer, and production supervisor? "I don't know what it is about the universe that put me where I am. I tell people I've just listened to that little voice in my heart and pursued things I've wanted to and explored areas I've wanted to."
