Being heavily involved in campus life has made a significant difference in Eddie Flynn's Onondaga Community College experience. "I've made so many connections here and it's so enjoyable. I have so many friends I wouldn't have had if I was just attending class. I come to school everyday and look forward to everything I'm part of."
The new exhibit in Onondaga Community College's Gallery is the work of an artist and instructor who was raised in a rural and majestic Malaysian village steeped in a colorful traditional culture. Rashidah Salam grew up surrounded by the rich art and craft of her community as well as the influence of multi-cultural and multi-ethnicity traditions. "I recreated the memory of the garden of my childhood. It's a sanctuary for me and I hope those who visit my garden here will find peace and happiness," she said.
Onondaga Community College welcomed hundreds of classic cars to campus for the 2nd annual Cruise & Views Car Show presented by Maguire Auto. The first Saturday of fall came with perfect weather; partly sunny skies and high temperatures in the 60s.
The Onondaga Community College Women's Soccer team is beginning to play well as it progresses into the season. "We're trending in the right direction," said Head Coach Sean St. Denis. "If we continue to play the way we are capable of playing, we should end up with an above .500 record and possibly contend for the regional championship. We've proven we can hang with some of the best teams in the region."
Each year Onondaga Community College recognizes distinguished graduates who have made a difference in their community and professional life, naming them "Alumni Faces" honorees. On the night of Thursday, October 6 at 5:30 p.m. in the Frederick Marvin and Ernst Schuh Recital Hall in the Academic II building, we will pay tribute to the Alumni Faces Class of 2022. In the weeks leading up to the event we are proudly profiling our honorees on our website and social media.
The Onondaga Community College campus came together to celebrate Unity Day Wednesday, September 21.
Activities included cultural food stations, leather wristband making, cross faith necklace making, henna tattoos, dancing by the amphitheater, an art contest, and more!
The Unity Day Student Committee, which organized and made the event happen, included Shoug Alkasabreh, Elyssia Baez, Kenneth Bivens, George Cooper, Thuw J-Elmi, Sierra Linton, Lauren Myers, Joshua Newman, Heather Patrick, and Shayne Turo.
Giuliana Portolesi is a standout lacrosse goalie who is hoping her Onondaga Community College experience will help her earn a scholarship to play at a Division 1 school. And when she does, the Rob Edson Scholarship will be part of her journey. "The scholarship is helping me immensely and taking a lot of weight off my shoulders,” she said.
When Bryan Morris graduated from tiny Red Creek High School in 2004, he had no idea what was next. "My wheels were spinning. I wasn't going anywhere and I didn't have a plan. I knew I should go to school for something but I didn't know what for."
Claire Sears is making a name for herself in a male-dominated industry. She's a student in Onondaga Community College's Automotive Technology degree program who has been working in the Auto Collision Center at Driver's Village in Cicero since last November. "As I've gotten more confident and proved myself, people are seeing what I can do. I'm doing a lot bigger jobs now than when I started. I'm changing whole pieces of cars which is pretty cool."
