Pregnant or Parenting Student Support
Title IX prohibits discrimination against pregnant and parenting students. Pregnant and parenting students at the College will not be excluded from any class, activity, or program on the basis of sex, pregnancy, childbirth, pregnancy-related ailments, false pregnancy, termination of pregnancy, or recovery therefrom, including caring for a newborn and/or breastfeeding.
Additionally, pregnant or parenting students may request pregnancy-related accommodations. If necessary, reasonable accommodations can be provided to assist students with continuing their collegiate experience. Reasonable accommodations are unique for each student and dependent on the student’s individual needs and circumstances. Depending on accommodation, medical documentation may be required.
Accommodation examples include, but are not guaranteed or limited to, the following:
- A larger desk
- Academic support
- Breaks during class, as needed
- Excused absences
- Extended deadlines
- Flexible exam scheduling
- Grades of incomplete
- Permitting temporary access to elevators
- Providing alternatives to make up missed work
- Rescheduling tests or exams
- Submitting work after a deadline missed due to pregnancy or childbirth
