Student Spotlight: Arthur Olifant

The opportunity to play collegiate tennis brought Arthur Olifant from his hometown of Brest, France to the Onondaga Community College campus. Even though the tennis season didn't happen due to COVID-19, he's figured out what he wants to do for the rest of his life and is ready to work hard to achieve his goals. "I'm focused on my grades and I want to work in cinema one day. I will stay here and graduate, then go to a cinema school."

Discussing Race and Policing in America

Throughout this semester four Onondaga Community College professors have led a campus-wide discussion about race and policing in America. Professors Karen Harrison, Pete Patnode, Tara Ross, and Jessica Wieczorek have held three, interactive pop-up sessions, each of which has been focused on specific topics related to race and policing. The sessions have been highly informative and have created meaningful dialogue.

Friday, April 30 the professors will present a symposium on race and police in America titled, "Change Is Going To Come." Scheduled presenters and speakers include:

The OCC Effect: Tatiana Parker, '06

Tatiana Parker always wanted to help people because of the challenges she faced in her own life. "Sometimes students feel pressured to present themselves as 'perfect' or ignore what may be going on in their personal lives. At OCC I found my professors to be a source of strength, knowledge, and opportunity. Dr.

Student Spotlight: Catherine Hadden

When Catherine Hadden shares her life story with her thick Georgia accent, you almost expect music to be playing in the background as if you're listening to an old-fashioned country song. Love, marriage, children, grandchildren, divorce, job loss, cancer... her story has it all, including the road to a new career which she's found at Onondaga Community College. "It felt like every time I was getting ahead, I was getting knocked back. I love it here. Even though I've had my setbacks, everyone has been very welcoming. It's been a very positive experience."
