Recital Hall Dedicated to Frederick Marvin and Ernst Schuh

Onondaga Community College's showcase music space, the Recital Hall in the Academic II building, was renamed the Frederick Marvin & Ernst Schuh Recital Hall during a moving ceremony March 13. Marvin was a world-renowned concert pianist. Schuh was his manager and husband. Marvin and Schuh gifted the College a mid-sized grand piano, much of their music collection, and a generous amount of support which will assist students for the foreseeable future. Current student Grace Norton is attending OCC tuition-free thanks to an endowed scholarship in their name.

Scholarship from the Sheriff

The criminal justice bug bit Brian Jankowski at a young age thanks to his uncle Mike. "He was a State Trooper. When I was a little kid he would come by with his police car and show me his gear. He let me turn on the lights and siren. It really stuck with me."

The OCC Effect: Matthew Artus, '18

Onondaga Community College was Matthew Artus' launching pad to success. Two years ago he earned a Fire Protection Technology degree here. Now he's about to earn a bachelor's degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. "OCC prepared me very well to get to this point. I'm forever grateful for that. Every professor I had taught with enthusiasm. Their passion was passed down to me and is helping me to succeed today."

Word-of-mouth led Grace Norton to Onondaga Community College. She grew up in the southern tier and planned to attend SUNY Fredonia until a music audition there didn't go well. "One of my dad's friend is a music professor in Philadelphia whose audition at Fredonia also didn't go well. He told my dad we should check out Onondaga Community College."
