Electronic Information Technology Accessibility (EITA) Committee

The Electronic Information Technology Accessibility (EITA) Committee supports Onondaga Community College’s commitment to providing equal access to electronic information and technology for all members of the campus community. The Committee works to ensure that digital resources, instructional materials, and technology systems are accessible to individuals with disabilities and usable across varied learning styles.

This work aligns with the College’s Electronic Information Technology Accessibility Policy, which reflects SUNY and federal accessibility standards.

Mission

The mission of the Electronic Information Technology Accessibility (EITA) Committee is to promote, support, and sustain accessible electronic and information technology across Onondaga Community College. The Committee advances inclusive digital practices that ensure all students, faculty, staff, and visitors have equitable access to College programs, services, and information.

Committee Charges

The Electronic Information Technology Accessibility (EITA) Committee is charged by the Executive Council to provide oversight, guidance, and leadership in matters related to digital accessibility at OCC. The Committee’s responsibilities include:

  • Oversight and Compliance
    • Monitor compliance with the SUNY Accessibility Policy and applicable federal and state accessibility requirements.
    • Support adherence to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) Level AA standards, with limited exceptions where technology does not permit.
  • Best Practices and Guidance
    • Disseminate best practices for electronic accessibility to faculty, staff, and administrators.
    • Provide guidance on accessible design for websites, instructional materials, documents, electronic media, and online systems.
  • Assessment of Emerging Technologies
    • Evaluate emerging technologies and digital tools for accessibility and usability.
    • Make recommendations to College governance on adaptive practices and accessible technology solutions.
  • Web and Digital Resources
    • Support accessibility of all College websites, web-based software, and online digital resources, including those hosted by third-party vendors.
  • Instructional and Academic Resources
    • Promote accessible course content and instructional materials in compliance with ADA and WCAG standards.
    • Collaborate with academic and support units to address accessibility concerns in instructional technologies.
  • Procurement Support
    • Advocate for accessibility considerations in the procurement of hardware, software, and information technology used to support College programs and services.
