Appeals and Overrides
While Financial Aid is primarily determined by the information submitted on your FAFSA and your academic performance, we understand that certain circumstances may arise that require additional review. In these situations, students may request changes to their aid based on updated or exceptional circumstances.
Dependency Overrides
Dependency Overrides can be considered when a student does not meet any of the Department of Education’s criteria for independent status but has an extenuating circumstance that prevents them from being able to obtain parent information for the FAFSA.
Special Circumstance
If a student or their family experiences a significant, documented change in their financial situation, they may request a review of their aid through a Special Circumstances application. Qualifying situations can include loss of employment, the death of a parent or spouse, unusual medical expenses, or a divorce or separation. To request an adjustment based on any of these circumstances, please submit the Special Circumstances Form.
SAP appeal
Students may submit a SAP Appeal if extenuating circumstances negatively impacted their academic performance during the term they became SAP ineligible. Examples include serious medical issues, hospitalization due to an accident or injury, a sudden call to military active duty, the death of an immediate family member, or other catastrophic events. Please note that submitting an appeal does not guarantee approval or reinstatement of aid.
