The P-TECH program has given Christian McKay a head start on his career. He's already working as a Mechanical Technician at Carrier while attending Onondaga Community College. "I was always interested in technology. I thought this would be a great pathway to start and get into the field. Now I'm ahead of everyone else. I'm looking around and seeing kids who are still going to college and I'm getting ready to go to work."
At the March 23, 2021, OCC Board of Trustees meeting, OCC Student Trustee and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Vice President for Service Eleanor Petrucco ‘21 and PTK Chapter President Gina Segreti ’21 gave a special presentation on behalf of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society to OCC Executive Director of Communications Roger Mirabito.
It's easy to see Moise Laub's polished appearance, hear about his recent acceptance into a top-ranked graduate school program, and not realize what it took for him to get to this point. "Without OCC I wouldn't have the confidence and the experience I have. I know I wouldn't have these chances and these opportunities. I've grown a lot because of OCC. OCC is where everything started for me."
Onondaga Community College provided Tiffany Williams the support system she needed to be a successful college student. "It's been such a different experience here. People have listened to me and helped me. It's really been great."
Williams spent five years in the Army National Guard before deciding to pursue a college education. She started at another community college, but a health episode left her with memory issues. Without the proper support services around her she walked away from college.
Onondaga Community College's chapter of international honor society Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) has been named Most Distinguished in New York for the third consecutive year. "This recognition reflects your dedication and determination during a truly unprecedented year. The Most Distinguished Chapter designation represents the highest commitment to learning and student success," said Lynn Tincher-Ladner, Ph.D., President and CEO of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. "This award reflects the College Project and Honors In Action Project for 2020.

There's a new place for students to receive assistance on campus. The Student Support Services office is now open on the first floor of Coulter Hall in office C110.
Services provided there include tutoring, academic coaching, student success workshops, internship opportunities, transfer assistance, financial aid assistance, personal counseling, and referrals for personal needs.
It seems hard for Emmalee French to believe that just five years ago she was in the 8th grade, learning about the amazing opportunities the P-TECH program presented. Today she's in her final semester at Onondaga Community College, completing work toward her Electrical Technology degree. By summer she'll have a full-time job as an Electrical Technician at Novelis, an aluminum mill in Oswego. "I think it's insane! It blows me away when I think about it. This whole thing has been so amazing."
Cameron and Colin Pare were preparing for the spring semester at Onondaga Community College when the infamous events of January 6 happened. As the United States Capitol was being stormed the Pare's knew their lives were about to change. "I was watching the news and I was about 80% sure we were going to get called up. The next day we found out we were being activated," said Colin.
