Summer Golf Tournament to Raise Money for Student Scholarships

Onondaga Community College's chapter of the American Association of Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) is preparing for its big fundraiser, which will benefit a future OCC student. The AAWCC Scholarship Scramble, a 4-person captain and crew golf tournament, will be held Sunday, July 13 at Tanner Valley Golf Course in the town of Onondaga. The cost is $400 for a 4-person team, and all money raised will be put toward a student scholarship. There are still openings for players and sponsorship opportunities.

OCC Community Service Helps Children

In the final weeks of the spring semester, students, faculty, and staff in Onondaga Community College's School of Technology, Engineering & Computing spent an afternoon helping others. They built beds for children as part of a growing effort by Sleep in Heavenly Peace. The organization builds and delivers beds to children in need in the greater Syracuse and Oswego city areas.

Alumna's National Scholarship Helping Her Pursue A Career In Medicine

Nidaa Aljabarrin knows how life-changing the Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship was in her academic journey. "It made so much of a difference. I didn't have to worry about the financial part. It took so much of the burden off going to college. I was able to do research and work on things I was really passionate about."

2025 Commencement

Onondaga Community College celebrated its 62nd commencement ceremony Saturday, May 17 in the SRC Arena. A total of 660 students completing their coursework in either the spring 2025 or summer 2025 semesters were eligible to participate.

Student Spotlight: Albadir Mcknight

Are you thinking about going back to school later in life? Albadir Mcknight says you can do it and be successful. "Your maturity level now is so much better. You can see the reason why you're doing it. For me personally, it was way easier than when I was younger. At this age all I wanted to do was improve my life and set an example for my kids. It was way easier than what I remembered when I was younger."

Celebrating Student Success In Electromechanical Technology

Onondaga Community College celebrated the accomplishments of its students enrolled in the Electromechanical Technology (ELM) program during an event held May 15 in the Gordon Student Center Great Room.

The ELM program was created in response to Micron Technology's decision to build a chip fabrication plant in Onondaga County. OCC welcomed its first group of ELM students in the fall 2023 semester. This Saturday, the first group of students who completed the program will receive their degrees.

OCC Students Share Their Knowledge at Maker Faire Syracuse

Onondaga Community College representatives spent the first Saturday in May getting young students excited about hands-on learning at Maker Faire Syracuse!

More than a dozen students, faculty, and staff from OCC's School of Technology, Engineering & Computing, the Electromechanical Technology program, and the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program all volunteered their time. They taught young learners about circuits and how to make wigglebots, which are small robots with an electric motor, battery, and pipe cleaners.
