McKenzie Anderson had used Virtual Reality (VR) Headsets while playing video games, but it was a whole new experience when they became part of her coursework in her Intro to Health Professions class (HPR 101) this semester. "It was really cool! I knew it wasn't exactly what it was like in real life, but I was able to experience what the setting would be like and what I would be doing."
Each year Onondaga Community College recognizes distinguished graduates who have made a difference in their community and professional life, naming them "Alumni Faces" honorees. On the night of Wednesday, October 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the Frederick Marvin and Ernst Schuh Recital Hall in the Academic II building, we will pay tribute to the Alumni Faces Class of 2023. It's been 61 years since Jim Boeheim arrived on the Syracuse University campus as a non-scholarship basketball player, but the message he shared with Onondaga Community College Lazers Student-Athletes was timeless. "There's no limit to what you can do. You never give up, you never slow down, nothing ever stops you. You may not be a great player, I wasn't a great player. Try to do the best you can every day and see what happens," he told them.
Anthony Mancini decided to run for Student Government President so he could help make a difference in campus life. He was elected and is now in his first semester leading the student body. "I want to be a voice for the students. I want to hear from them and promote their concerns and ideas and suggestions as much as possible."
Shawni Davis received the New York State Small Business Development Center's 2023 Minority Entrepreneur of the Year Award today. She was presented the award by Sonya Smith, State Director of the Small Business Development Center. Davis is a client of the Small Business Development Center at Onondaga Community College which is led by Bob Griffin.
A new group of campus leaders are completing their first month as Student Government representatives. They plan and lead activities, organize and support clubs, and represent the entire student body in meetings with the administration.
