Making Financial Aid Easy

Do you have financial aid-related questions? You're not alone! Figuring everything out and doing what you have to do on time is a big challenge.

February is Financial Aid Awareness Month! Onondaga Community College Director of Financial Aid Kevin Sapio has a team of experts here ready to serve you. On the latest edition of our podcast, "Chatting about College," Sapio simplifies the process and shares important advice.

Proudly Serving Our Student Veterans

Onondaga Community College has been named a Military Friendly School for the 2021-2022 academic year. The designation is awarded based on institutional survey scores combined with the ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer), and loan default rate for all students and, specifically, for Student Veterans.

Student Spotlight: Cristian Pompey

Cristian Pompey was close to winding up in a very bad place. During his first two-and-a-half years at Brooklyn Collegiate High School he rarely attended. "If I wasn't skipping school, I was skipping classes. I didn't take school seriously and I was living on the streets. I was in a really bad crowd with people I considered to be my brothers until they stabbed me in the back. That's when I realized it wasn't the life I wanted to live."

Student Spotlight: Allison Logue

Allison Logue discovered Onondaga Community College is the perfect place to figure out what you want to do. The first time she came to OCC was for the Medical Assistant program which she completed and went directly into the workforce. "I tried it out to see where it would take me. I needed a job. I did it for a few years. I liked it but it wasn't what I wanted to do."

Student Government President Going Non-Stop

Alexis Riccardo loves being busy and the spring 2021 semester promises to be her most challenging to date. Riccardo is taking 18 credits this semester in the Engineering Science degree program. She's also President of the Student Association. And most importantly, she's a mom.

Thanks to her participation in the College's C-STEP program (Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program) she spent a week in January participating in a mini-semester program with the Brookhaven National Laboratory and loved the experience.

Spring 2021 Student Government Officers

A new group of Student Government Officers is in place and working hard to ensure things we have a great spring semester! These students are responsible for providing support for student clubs and organizations, student leadership development, and campus-wide activities which are limited due to the pandemic. They also meet monthly with College President Dr. Casey Crabill to discuss issues important to fellow students. The spring 2021 Student Government Officers are:

Student Spotlight: Hadassah Johnson

Hadassah Johnson's future was always in music. She just had to figure it out for herself. Music was a constant in her Auburn home where she was the youngest of 12 children. Family members regularly participated in music-related activities like church choirs. But it wasn't until she was watching television one night that she realized what she wanted to do. "During the Grammy Awards they gave an award to a music teacher. I had taught myself various things regarding music. I was very interested in improving my voice and my vocal technique.

New Pathway For OCC Students To SUNY Poly

Onondaga Community College President Dr. Casey Crabill and SUNY Polytechnic Institute Acting President Dr. Tod A. Laursen today signed a transfer articulation agreement which provides students who earn their associate degree at OCC a seamless pathway into one of 12 degree programs at SUNY Poly. OCC students will be able to take all of their credits with them to SUNY Poly and then complete work toward their bachelor's degree in as soon as two years. Students nationwide face a significant barrier to earning their degree when they change programs.
