OCC Alumni Night at the Ballpark
Graduates ranging from the class of 1968 to the class of 2023 spent a warm summer night sharing stories and watching baseball as part of OCC Alumni Night at NBT Bank Stadium. Former students and their guests enjoyed summertime food and beverages while lounging on the 1st Base Patio.
Everyone went home happy when the Syracuse Mets beat the Buffalo Bisons 8-6 on a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 9th inning.
Developing a New Path for Students in Reading and Writing
Revisions to Developmental Reading and Writing at Onondaga Community College are making a significant impact on the educational path of students. Placement tests have been eliminated along with non-credit courses which require time and money students simply don't have. The decision to accelerate developmental education by keeping students of all entering abilities in class together is the product of a collaboration led by Dean Michael O'Connor, Dr. Matt DelConte, and Dr. Malkiel Choseed.
OCC Student's Research to be Published
If you don't live in the world of research, you may not understand the magnitude of this story. Onondaga Community College student Elliott O'Connell will soon have the results of his summer research published in a peer-reviewed journal. Articles which appear in peer-reviewed journals first go through an evaluation process during which expert scholars critically assess the quality and scientific merit of the article and its research. Articles which survive the process are published in peer-review literature.
Alum Telling Stories With His Pictures
For as far back as Ben Cleeton '13 can remember, his parents encouraged him to pursue an artistic career. So it was no surprise when, as a 2nd grader at Geneseo Elementary, he brought his own art show to school one day. "I had found objects and sculptures and paintings. I did a lot with dragons and there were some masks too," he recalls. A story about his art show was featured in the local newspaper. Little did he or anyone know at the time, it was the beginning of him showing off his work to large audiences.
Micron Brings Chip Camp to OCC
More than 100 rising 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students came to the Onondaga Community College campus to have fun while learning during the Micron-sponsored Chip Camp. The students were from the Syracuse City School District, LaFayette Central School District including the Onondaga Nation School, the East Syracuse Minoa School District, and several Oswego County school districts whose students are part of the P-TECH program through CiTi BOCES.
