2022 Curriculum Honors - Education

Onondaga Community College honored outstanding students in each of its degree and certificate programs during the 2022 Curriculum Honors ceremony, The event was held May 4 in Storer Auditorium.

The following students were recognized for excelling in the School of Education:

Early Child Care Certificate - Laura Avery

  • Laura was a dedicated student who was always eager to learn about her profession. She embraced her field experience opportunities and was always looking to improve.

Student Spotlight: Allie Elkins

Allie Elkins has always had a pretty good idea what her career path would be. "My dad works in broadcasting and I used to follow him around race tracks when he did interviews with race car drivers. It was really inspiring. I've known for a good chunk of my life I wanted to go into broadcasting and work in front of the camera as a sports reporter."

2022 Pinnacle Award Winners

Onondaga Community College honored its 2022 Pinnacle Award winners during a ceremony held May 4 in the SRC Arena's Otis Suite. The Pinnacle program recognizes students who have shown excellence in one or more of the following fields: leadership, civic engagement, and scholarly research. Students selected demonstrated not only an exemplary academic performance, but also a strong connection with the campus or community. OCC President Dr. Casey Crabill  applauded the honorees on being chosen. Alumna Helping Find Workers in Difficult Labor Market

Mikaelie (Fletcher) Lanzafame '11 has a challenging job. As a Human Resources Business Partner at Marquardt Switches in Cazenovia, she's trying to find workers at a time of profound labor shortages. The plant has approximately 260 employees and dozens of openings. "Our apply rates are down. We work with temp agencies to get people in here and they are struggling. We've put incentives in place, sign-on bonuses, we've increased wages, we've increased perks. It's just a very challenging time."
